Interview: Indio Talks Success As A New Artist

Latin Singer IndioLatinaroom: What was it like to be nominated for a Premios Lo Nuestro award for “Artist of the year” in the tropical genre?

Indio: To me it was…I guess the best way I could put it: the feeling of success. You know this is my first year out, and this was a soft release of the record so the world really didn’t get to hear the record in its entirety. But the industry recognized music and nominated me…to me I felt blessed.

Latinaroom: Did you do anything exciting or crazy when you found out?

Indio: Naw, not really…I didn’t really do anything as far as going crazy I just enjoyed it with the people that helped me get there. I went out and had a good time with the people that helped me get to that level.

Latinaroom: Tell me about the increasing popularity of your debut album “Taino De Puerto Rico Para El Mundo?”

Indio: It’s actually…you know not to sound conceited but it’s blowing me mentally…people are definitely riding the wave with me now as opposed to when we first started doing it; when you’re trying to break a new artist it’s difficult because you have to get known. Now, things are a little bit different…I walk into places and people are definitely recognizing the face and I let them hear just a little bit of what I’m coming with, with the album on my Facebook and Myspace. So they actually get to hear the rhythm and the sound and the voice that I’m bringing. There’s a lot of excitement…there’s a lot of positive buzz out there about me dropping it like it’s hot when we come out with this record. (more…)
